St. James Preschool and You!

Parents are a crucial component to the success of our preschool program. Throughout the year, parents are welcome to guide a special activity such as a craft or cooking project, or share a special holiday tradition with the children. You may be called upon to accompany the children on a walking trip through Upper Montclair or join in on the fall apple-picking trip. Spending the day at St. James Preschool is a special way to celebrate your child’s birthday, and parents are always welcome to have lunch with their child (or children). Parents become an integral part of many school programs such as organizing our annual Family Brunch and year-end picnic.

Parent Testimonials

“St. James Preschool has played an integral role in making our children the compassionate, thoughtful people they are today.

The preschool years are a formative time of a child’s life. Having our 4 children exposed to the important life lessons taught at St. James, was one of the greatest things that we have done for them.

At St. James Preschool, they learned to be empathic, social, and curious. They learned to play fair, be kind and love the arts.

The values we try hard to instill in our children at home, are embraced and reinforced at St. James Preschool.”

“We have two kids who attended, and one who still attends, St. James Preschool. Our experience has been wonderful. St. James’ philosophy of learning through play is great and my kids woke up every morning excited to go to school. The staff is caring and nurturing yet instills independence in the kids. Moreover, the St. James families are warm and welcoming and over the years we’ve made many friends that our family will have forever. This is my third child’s last year at St. James and although we’ll be sad to leave, we’ll always come back to visit!”

“Between our three children, next year will be our 8th year at St. James Preschool. We continue to be impressed by the commitment of the teachers and the huge variety of activities that are available each day for the children to use to learn through play. Our children made their first real friendships at St James and have maintained these friendships even though many of them do not go to the same elementary school. I think these friendships allowed our kids (and us) to develop a real sense of community — it seems like we run into a St James buddy wherever we are in Montclair! We have all loved the time we have spent at St. James and will be a little sad next year when it is our last.”
